Former Illini Star Roger Powell Jr. to Give Motivational Speech
PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs have announced that Reverend Roger Powell Jr., a member of the 2005 University of Illinois National finalist basketball team, will be giving a pre-game motivational speech on May 24 when the Chiefs take on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 6:30 pm. Powell will be speaking at approximately 5:15 pm, and gates will open at 4:30 pm. The night will also feature the first post-game fireworks show of the season.
Powell, nicknamed the Rev by his University of Illinois teammates, became an ordained minister in 2004. In an act to strengthen and encourage spirituality in today’s youth, Powell founded RPJ Ministries, a non-profit organization under the umbrella of National Heritage Foundation. The basketball camps of RPJ Ministries are dedicated to preparing high school players to being bold witnesses when they enter college.
