A ROUND AT OAK HILL
It’s a perk of the profession. Organizers of major golf tournaments believe there’s some value in allowing the media to play the course before the event. Who are we to argue?
I used to turn these invitations down. I wasn’t a golfer, had given up on the game some 20 years ago out of complete frustration. It was an insult to the course to have me on it and, as Groucho Marx once said, “I wouldn’t join a club that would have me as a member.”
But I’ve mellowed a bit the last couple of years. Perhaps more comfortable with my limitations or just worn down from years of people telling me I have to play these events, I found myself at Oak Hill Country Club on the course that will host the Senior PGA in a couple of weeks.
